This fresh proposal marks a significant departure from the previous tunnel-based approach. Under the new plan, the bypass section would traverse land owned by the “Saint Gobain” company, situated in close proximity to Bascharage station. Negotiations are reportedly in progress with the company’s management regarding this arrangement.
Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot has officially conffirmed that, as part of the proposal, the concerned company would receive a designated plot of land in the “Wolser B” industrial zone located in Dudelange. This land allocation, positioned near the railway line and linked to the A3, is currently under consideration by the company. However, a decision by Saint Gobain is not expected before the end of September.
The municipal executive board (Schäfferot) of Bascharage will meet on Thursday, while the mayor of Sanem is set to hold her meeting on Friday. It appears that the new plan presented by Minister Bausch on Wednesday has been received favourably.
Under the new plan, the bypass would no longer pass through the Bobësch forest, which would therefore be preserved. Only a small number of trees near the Saint Gobain plant at the edge of the forest would have to be removed. In the summer of 2022, environmental activists had occupied the forest in protest against the planned bypass.
The new plan will be officially unveiled to the public during a press conference on Monday, 18 September.
