As the popular expression goes, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” The municipality of Mertzig has recently launched its new ‘Give-Box’, a hut where residents can either leave belongings they want to give away or claim something new that somebody else no longer needs.

With the slogan ‘don’t throw away, donate!’, the municipality is encouraging residents to be more thoughtful about the life cycle of items they buy and throw away. Mainly, if an object remains useable, residents should put it in the ‘Give-Box’ rather than throw it away or recycle, following along the mantra of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’, which also functions as a hierarchy.

As well as extending the life cycle of objects, the box is also designed to provide residents with a meeting and conviviality space. The Give-Box can be found behind the town’s Centre Turelbaach, just off Rue Principale.
