The joint statement comes at the backdrop of a STATEC seminar on the significance of unions in Luxembourg’s changing economy. The OGBL, LCGB, and CGFP claimed they felt particularly provoked by a presentation titled “Will they rise again?” given by a university professor.
The unions were also unhappy with the presence of representatives from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), citing past instances of contempt for employee representatives. While the presentations lasted for up to two hours, the unions claim they were only given a 15-minute window to voice their reactions.
In their statement, the OGBL, LCGB, and CGFP questioned the impartiality of the STATEC, alleging that the organization has repeatedly stated that unions are facing a downfall in a fast-changing economy. However, detailed analyses of relevant institutions and organisations are said to be rare.
The employee representatives further expressed a suspicion that the STATEC is being influenced by politics and attempting to destroy the social dialogue.
The joint statement also called out alleged secrecy between the STATEC and the Competition Observatory, an institution under the Ministry of the Economy’s tutelage.
