Perhaps unsurprisingly, Luxembourg’s students come out on top when it comes to learning foreign languages - with 100% of them learning two or more languages other than their mother tongue. In second place is Finland (99%), followed by Italy (97%), Greece (96%), and Romania/Estonia (both 95%).
At the bottom of the list is Hungary, where only 6% of pupils learn two or more foreign languages, Austria (8%), Ireland (11%), Bulgaria (15%), Slovenia (35%).

As for our neighbouring nations, Germany only just escaped being in the bottom five at 36%, while France sees 75% of students learning two or more languages. No data were available for Belgium.
As for the most studied languages, English comes out on top, with French a distant second, and German in third.
