The woman, 23, and her 19-year-old boyfriend appeared in Thionville Criminal Court four days after their arrest. The man was sentenced to one year in prison with a €2,000 fine, while the woman received a six month sentence. Both prison sentences were suspended, reported the Républicain Lorrain.
The couple said they had agreed to transport the drugs “without asking for more details” in order to finance their studies. The 23-year-old woman is due to pass her baccalaureate in Luxembourg and the young man is studying economics.
The Républicain Lorrain said the couple had displayed fear and emotion during the hearing, after spending several days in pre-trial detention. Neither of the pair possessed a criminal record prior to this incident.
