The goal of this major initiative is to enable all residents to benefit from the maximum potential of new technologies.
The Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR) has launched a campaign that targets 5% of Luxembourg’s overall network, which still consist entirely of copper cables. The aim is to provide rapid internet access to all Luxembourgish households while also modernising the cable network. Copper cable maintenance is up to 60% more expensive compared to a network of optic fibre cables.
The ILR intends to eliminate all copper connections from Luxembourg’s network by 2030. Households still relying on such a connection will be notified six months in advance by their operator. They will receive a letter outlining the procedure to be followed.
All key dates are regularly published online on the ILR website myILR.lu.
