Luxembourg police responded to several cases of drink-driving on Friday night.
The first incident took place at around 7pm in Luxembourg City, where officers pulled over a driver on Avenue de la Porte Neuve after observing erratic driving, including scraping against the pavement. A check revealed the driver was intoxicated and already under a driving ban due to prior DUI and speeding offences. The public prosecutor’s office subsequently ordered the seizure of the vehicle.
Less than an hour later, at approximately 7.45pm, a collision between a car and a bus occurred on Route de Thionville. The car driver initially fled the scene but later arrived at the police station near the central railway station to report the accident. Officers, however, noticed signs of intoxication and immediately revoked the individual’s driving licence.
Shortly after midnight, at 12.30am, police were called to Rue du Château in Munsbach following reports of a suspicious vehicle left running in a private parking spot. Upon arrival, officers found the driver asleep inside the car. The individual was confirmed to be under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the revocation of their licence.
In the early hours of the morning, at around 3.10am, police in the Ville-Haute neighbourhood in Luxembourg City observed a car exiting the one-way Grand Rue and heading toward Rue du Fossé. Despite the officers activating their blue lights, the driver continued until being stopped near Place du Théâtre. A strong smell of alcohol was detected, and a subsequent breathalyser test confirmed intoxication, leading to the driver’s licence being revoked.
Around the same time, a driver in Soleuvre lost control of their vehicle in a bend, crashing into a post before coming to rest near a residential front yard. When police arrived, the driver – who showed clear signs of intoxication – was still inside the car, despite the airbags having deployed. The individual, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to hospital for evaluation, and their licence was revoked.
