
In that time, the foundation has created around 80 trusts and funded over €200 million into projects in a host of different domains: social projects, cultural ones, research, and environmental causes.
At a press conference on Tuesday morning, director Tonika Hirdman compared the foundation's beginning with its success ten years later. She highlighted that nowadays, philanthropy is more important than ever, but did not use to have the value that it does today.
She highlighted how the Luxembourg Foundation facilitated the process of founding trusts. She praised the professionalisation of charitable organisations and the fact that the Luxembourgish finance sector had gained a more human face due to the foundation.
Of its funds, the foundation allocates 47% to projects based in Europe, of which 22% are in Luxembourg. 45% of its funds go to Africa-based projects, 5% to ones in South America, and 2.5% to projects in Asia.
