Whistleblower protectionLuxembourg fined in EU Court over late directive implementation

RTL Today
Luxembourg faces a €375,000 penalty after being found in violation by the European Court of Justice for delays in adopting the whistleblower protection directive.

On Thursday, the European Court of Justice ruled against Luxembourg and four other countries for failing to implement the whistleblower protection directive on time.

As a result of the ruling, Luxembourg has been ordered to pay a fine of €375,000. While the directive was eventually transposed into national law in 2023, delays in the process were attributed to the government’s tardiness in submitting the bill, as well as the Council of State taking a full year to finalise its opinion.
