New data from Eurostat show that Luxembourg has the 4th lowest rate of young people neither in employment nor in education (NEET).

According to the (2018) data, 7.5% of Luxembourg's population aged 15 to 29 are neither in employment nor education. The only countries with a lower proportion are Malta (7.4%), Sweden (7%), and the Netherlands (5.7%).

The EU average is 12.9%, and at the other end of the spectrum are Italy (23.4%), Greece (19.5%), and Bulgaria (18.1%).

Out of our neighbouring countries, Germany fares the best coming in just one spot behind Luxembourg at 7.9%, followed by Belgium (12%), and finally France (13.6%).

Youth unemployment

Looking at youth unemployment specifically, 15.2% of youth aged under 25 was unemployed in the EU in 2018. In Luxembourg this figure stood at 14.1%, placing us in 16th place. This is the lowest rate since 2006, the earliest year through which Eurostat data is available. The highest rate was recorded in 2014, at 22.3%.
