A new report published by the Ministry for Energy reveals that Luxembourg’s efforts to reduce natural gas consumption have been successful. According to the report, as of July 2023, natural gas consumption has been reduced by approximately 34% compared to the reference period of 2017 to 2022.

This significant reduction aligns Luxembourg with the European Union (EU) Member States’ targets for cutting down the demand for natural gas. The development is part of the EU-wide initiative to prepare for the coming winter and guarantee security of supply in the Union.

The EU had previously decided to extend a measure by one year to voluntarily reduce natural gas demand by 15% as a proactive approach to manage energy consumption. Luxembourg’s achievements in July 2023 have far exceeded this target, marking a notable milestone in the country’s conservation efforts.
