The union of municipalities Syvicol and the National Council of Women of Luxembourg (CNFL) announced on Monday that from 8 to 31 March, 84 streets will be renamed after historic women. In 2021, 15 municipalities had already joined the campaign.
A map of Luxembourg depicted on the Rues au féminin website shows the 84 different streets across the country. When hovering over the street, an extended biography of the woman is provided.
In addition to this website, as part of the ongoing “Who is she?” campaign, 16 municipalities have put up information leaflets near the street signs where these names appear.
The CNFL noted that roughly 2.6% of Luxembourg’s streets have female names, compared to 17% male. The long-term objective, say organisers, is to name more streets, buildings and public places after women.
