The CSV presented the results of its work in the Chamber of Deputies: 38 legislative proposals, 91 amendments to legislative texts, 272 motions, and 168 requested debates. In addition, CSV MPs summoned the government to parliamentary committees 350 times.

The party believes that the current coalition government falls short in several crucial areas. The housing shortage has reached “unprecedented levels,” health policy is seen as a failure, and the education policy faces criticism.

Co-president of the CSV parliamentary group Gilles Roth underlined the concerning rise in poverty, mainly attributing it to excessive taxation on citizens.

Frieden stressed that tax burdens in Luxembourg have surged in the last 30 years, with eight wage indexations since 2017, leading to a significant difference in the tax table. The CSV aims to boost purchasing power, especially for low and middle-income earners, through gradual changes.

Looking back on the legislative period, Frieden expressed relief that it has come to an end, given the divergent opinions among governing parties on essential matters. He believes that Luxembourg cannot afford to stagnate and must now embark on a different policy path, focusing on robust social, responsible economic, and efficient climate policies.

Frieden voiced concerns about the slow progress in Luxembourg’s climate policies, particularly in renewable energy development. He pointed out the need for faster expansion of cycle paths and urgent action to revitalise biodiversity in rivers. Frieden questioned the relatively low achievement of 11% renewable energy compared to total consumption, despite the Green Party’s involvement in the government. He argued that the country should have already reached the 20% to 25% mark by now.
