The Grand Duchy’s cinema scene is poised for an exciting upgrade. In a new collaboration between the Kinepolis Group and IMAX Corporation, a state-of-the-art IMAX screen is set to make its debut in Luxembourg City.
No timeline for the project has been outlined at this point.
A key highlight of the IMAX experience is its suite of distinctive features. The IMAX with Laser system is renowned for its ground-breaking 4k laser projection that delivers startlingly clear, lifelike images. Accompanied by a new optical engine and custom-designed lenses, this technology ensures brighter visuals, deeper contrasts, and a wider range of colors exclusively tailored for IMAX screens. Moreover, the precision audio makes every whisper and roar resonate with viewers, making it an all-encompassing sensory experience.
This development is part of a broader initiative that aims to introduce eight new IMAX locations across Europe and North America. With this move, Luxembourg cinemagoers will have the opportunity to experience films like never before.
Eddy Duquenne, CEO of Kinepolis Group, shared his perspective on the partnership: “This agreement shows our continued commitment to invest in the ultimate movie experience, allowing more film lovers the opportunity to watch films in IMAX ... We are happy and proud to announce this extended partnership, which we believe will bring value to everyone involved.”
The announcement of Luxembourg’s IMAX debut comes amidst reports of record-breaking first-semester profits made by the Kinepolis Group in 2023. In the first half of the year, Kinepolis saw a 25.1% increase in revenue from 2022, reaching record earnings despite having fewer visitors than before the pandemic. This surge is being attributed to greater demand for premium cinema experiences, with their strategic plans from recent years now showing results. Blockbusters like ‘Avatar 2' boosted their performance, and CEO Eddy Duquenne is optimistic about continued growth.
