The Prison Intervention Group (GRIP) has conducted 60 interventions since the Uerschterhaff detention centre opened in 2022, according to figures provided by Minister of Justice Elisabeth Margue of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV). The data was shared in response to a parliamentary question from Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) MP Dan Biancalana.

In recent years, 131 special interventions have taken place at Schrassig prison. GRIP teams, equipped with protective gear and weapons such as pepper spray and paintball launchers, are stationed at the facility, where 19 officers currently serve. The Ministry of Justice has no plans to expand this team at Schrassig.

Meanwhile, the Uerschterhaff detention centre in Sanem has 27 GRIP officers. However, Minister Margue indicated that increasing the number of officers in the south might soon be necessary due to the rising number of interventions and the internal needs of the facility.
