A manslaughter case stemming from a deadly altercation at a Jeunesse Esch youth team training session two years ago is scheduled to go to trial ahead of the summer holidays.

In January 2023, an incident on the football pitch of Jeunesse Esch resulted in the death of a man following an altercation.

According to a spokesperson for the Luxembourg judiciary, the trial in the case is expected to start before the summer holidays. The spokesperson shared this information in an interview with the newspaper Tageblatt.

The incident occurred on 20 January 2023, when a man entered the pitch during a youth team training session while carrying a knife. He allegedly threatened and attacked individuals present at the scene. Shortly after the incident, the public prosecutor’s office confirmed that a 22-year-old man had been accused of manslaughter. At the time, judicial authorities indicated that the investigation would likely take some time to complete.

Now, following the conclusion of the investigation and judicial procedures, the defendants in the case have been identified as a coach and the father of one of the youth players. While the trial is expected to begin before the summer holidays, an exact start date has yet to be determined.
