In a press release, the ITM clarified that the duty to guarantee the safety of both the amusement rides and the public attending the Schueberfouer falls under the jurisdiction of the Mayor of Luxembourg City.

The ITM’s primary role is confined to overseeing working conditions and ensuring the health and safety of employees.

In response to the recent incident on the “Wilde Maus” ride, the ITM disclosed that it had not received any alerts regarding the incident, neither from the ride operator nor from any witnesses on the scene. The inspectorate only deploys its personnel to the scene of an incident when alerted to it. Consequently, “it was not possible for the ITM to verify whether the relevant legal provisions pertaining to working conditions and workplace safety were adhered to during the incident in question.”

A video depicting an individual attempting to free the ride’s carriage while wearing an unsecured harness has raised concerns regarding occupational health and safety compliance. Specifically, the harness not being anchored constitutes a violation of occupational health and safety regulations. The ride operator has since been reminded to strictly adhere to safety protocols applicable to their employees, as emphasised by the ITM.

In their original article about the ride operator’s response to the series of incidents, our colleagues from RTL Infos noted that they were unable to obtain additional information from the ITM due to the heads of its press department being on leave. Addressing this statement, the ITM clarified that “despite staff members being on leave, the ITM can be contacted 24 hours a day, in particular to report an accident at the workplace or an incident exposing employees to occupational risks, either by phone, email, postal mail, or in person at any of the four offices located in Strassen, Esch-sur-Alzette, Diekirch, or Wiltz.”
