In the 2020-2021 census, 15% of the residents in the country reported having a disability.

Associations that actively engage with this field welcome the availability of these statistics, as they believe it will enable targeted efforts to improve the situation.

Christine Zimmer, director of Info-Handicap, an information center for individuals with disabilities, stresses the vital importance of education and qualifications for people with disabilities. She highlights the many challenges they face, especially in the job market, and so stresses the importance of implementing inclusion measures as soon as possible.

In recent years, efforts have already been made. For instance, primary schools now have dedicated teachers for pupils with special needs. The next step is to ensure that such specialised teaching staff also become available in high schools.

Info Handicap emphasises the aim of achieving a truly inclusive society and for this, education and employment become two critical steps in attaining this goal.
