
During the night between Friday and Saturday, officers responded to a reported theft on Avenue de la Porte-Neuve in Luxembourg City. A handbag had been stolen. Police apprehended a suspect who was found in possession of additional stolen items, including a mobile phone that had also been reported missing. The individual was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor’s office and the stolen property was returned to its owners.
On Saturday afternoon, another theft occurred at a shoe shop in Wemperhardt. The suspect was detained by security staff until officers arrived. After it emerged that he was allegedly responsible for further thefts, he was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor and later appeared before an examining magistrate.
Police also reported increased deployments in Diekirch at around 11pm on Sunday in connection with carnival celebrations. Several fights broke out on Place de la Libération, prompting several patrols to intervene. Those involved were described as uncooperative and a scuffle ensued. A number of intoxicated individuals were taken to the police station and placed in custody.
