On Wednesday, the trade union published a press release stating that members of the personnel delegation had asked it for support following IBM Luxembourg’s decision to start negotiations for a social plan.

According to the LCGB’s press release, the company’s management had explained that the decision had been taken to “cut operating costs” and transform their service offer by banking on increased automation. The company intends to lay off 38 of its 313 employees.

The LCGB harshly criticised the decision, pointing out that it is not at all due to the Covid-19 crisis, but merely to a desire to raise profits.

IBM Luxembourg is a subsidiary of the US-based technology company International Business Machines.
