With the election campaign being over, Luxembourg’s politicians now have to wait and see how voters decided on Sunday. Here are some impressions of what the lead candidates Xavier Bettel, Paulette Lenert, Sam Tanson, and Luc Frieden had to say thus far.
Bettel showed himself calm and composed in front of the microphone after placing his vote in Bonnevoie: “I’m not confident, I’m also not anxious, come what may. I tried my best over the past ten years, we’ve mastered many crises together.”
Paulette Lenert, lead candidate for the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP), is hoping for a good result: “We expect good results of course, we put in all of our resources to explain our programme as best we can, and to get as many people to read it. Of course we hope to come out of this election stronger, whatever that means ... we are simply hoping for the best.”

The lead candidate of the Green Party did not seem nervous today. “There have been other days in my life where I have been more nervous than today. Now it is over, we gave our best. We travelled a lot and debated a lot with people, now the only thing left to do is wait.”
In Contern, it was the lead candidate of the CSV, Luc Frieden, who placed his vote. “I’m confident now, but it is always a very exciting day, you always want to have the result as soon as possible, but we know that it takes time, so I’m in good spirits for the day that is coming.”
