First announced by l’essentiel, quoting Dr Hansjörg Reimer, the general director of CHEM, the the discovery of the hazardous substance was quite a shock for many current and former patients/staff.

The three CHEM locations in Esch, Niederkorn and Dudelange are being regrouped into the new hospital which will be located near the Raemerech roundabout.

By late 2024 or early 2025, the old hospital in Niederkorn is supposed to be demolished, making way for a newer more modern facility.

What exactly is going to take its place in Niederkorn has not yet been confirmed. However, there is talk of a potential environmental medicine centre, a nursery and a retirement home.
