Mobile phone use behind the wheel remains a widespread issue on the roads. In response, Hosingen police carried out a traffic control operation on Wednesday, 16 April, focusing specifically on this offence. The results were telling: 17 drivers were issued fines of €250 and had four points deducted from their driving licences for using their phones while driving.

The police were also checking for seatbelt compliance. One driver was fined, and in four additional cases, passengers were also found not wearing seatbelts, resulting in warnings and fines being issued.

In addition, one driver received a fine for ignoring a no-entry sign, while another was penalised for having a poorly secured load.

Finally, one motorist was unable to present a valid road tax sticker, and another could not produce their mandatory training booklet.
