Not only were participants able to do some recreational hiking, they simultaneously helped raise money for a good cause. Despite unfortunate weather conditions, many people found their way to Bissen for the first edition of the event. 250 participants registered in advance at an entry fee of €5. For every hiked kilometre, the municipality of Bissen then donated 1€ to Doctors Without Borders.
Bissen mayor David Viaggi commented on the nature of the event: "I think it is important that Luxembourg's towns start moving in this direction, especially during a pandemic. With Doctors Without Borders as our partners, we know that we can help turn this event into something useful."
Since the beginning of the pandemic, non-profit organisations have struggled to collect as many donations as they used to before. Carole Nunez from Doctors Without Borders explained: "We usually get a lot of support from Luxembourgish citizens, which is why we want to increase our presence and clearly show people how we make use of their donations."
Municipal officials are already looking to 2022 for the second edition of the event and consider expanding it over the entire weekend.
