In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, the Directorate said that patients who do not require urgent treatment should, where possible, consult a GP, paediatrician, or a medical home. This would ensure that patients receive appropriate care while helping to reduce overcrowding in emergency rooms.

Medical homes are open on weekdays from 8pm to midnight, and at weekends and on public holidays from 8am to midnight. The children’s medical home is open from Monday to Friday between 7pm and 10pm, and at weekends and on public holidays from 9am to 9pm.

To help prevent illness in the first place, the Health Directorate also reiterated the importance of so-called barrier measures. These include washing hands regularly and staying at home when unwell. People who are sick are advised to avoid contact with vulnerable individuals, wear a mask, and cough or sneeze into their elbow.
