Unions and Green PartyGovernment's actions threaten Luxembourg's social dialogue

Trade unions and the opposition Green Party have come together to voice their concerns over the erosion of Luxembourg's social model, urging the government to engage in meaningful dialogue with unions and address growing uncertainties in the labour market.

The Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) and the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB) recently met with representatives of the Green Party (Déi Gréng) to discuss the current state of Luxembourg’s social model.

In a joint statement released on Tuesday, the unions and the opposition party stress that “Luxembourg’s social model is in danger” and that cooperation is needed to safeguard the rights of unionists and employees.

The signatories state that recent weeks showed that the government’s actions are threatening both the tripartite model and social dialogue in Luxembourg. They accuse Minister of Labour Georges Mischo of attempting to weaken trade unions by refusing to engage in “proper dialogue” and remaining vague on their future role in Luxembourg society.
