The Minister discussed the progress of the Bissen project during a meeting of the economy commission on Thursday morning, following requests filed by the CSV.
CSV MP Laurent Mosar said it was clear that the data centre project is “dead”, and requested that the land set aside - up to 46 football pitches’ worth - should be freed up for redevelopment as soon as possible. Mosar criticised the Ministry of Environment’s procedures, claiming they were cumbersome and took so long that they discourage potential investors. Earlier this year, Mouvement Ecologique condemned the plan to build the centre altogether, while Google’s expansions in Belgium cast doubt on the project.
Google has until mid-2024 to apply for building permits for its project. Otherwise, the government has the right to first refusal on the land, at the price at which it was sold. If both parties agree, however, this period may be extended.
