The pilot phase will start this autumn in a select few primary schools around the country, offering pupils the chance to learn to read and write in French first, before switching to German.
The government council also agreed to allow students sitting their final exams the chance to retake the exams before the autumn if they test positive for Covid.
In addition, the council approved a bill to grant paternity leave rights to any person recognised as a second parent, including same-sex couples and self-employed individuals.
