United Airlines has launched its new daily direct route between Findel Airport and Newark, located around 25km from Manhattan, starting from 2 April. The flight is operated with an Airbus A321 XLR, a next-generation aircraft designed specifically for longer-haul routes, and features 150 seats: 118 in Economy, 12 in Premium Plus, and 20 in Polaris Business Class. The airline aims to provide passengers with as much comfort as possible on this transatlantic journey.
With this new connection, passenger numbers at Findel are expected to rise steadily, placing additional demands on lux-Airport operations. Lorenzo di Loreto, COO at lux-Airport, acknowledges the added pressure, stating that they need to review the quality of their services.
According to di Loreto, a new master plan has already been put in place, and the team is now working on various improvements, particularly in operations and security. He is confident that they can manage the impact well.
Berny Ley, Vice President of the Union of Travel Agencies and Managing Director of Voyages Flammang, also believes this direct link will increase the appeal of New York among Luxembourg travellers. He contends that the interest in New York is gradually returning, as the city has a new mayor, and the flight to Newark is right next to New York itself.
He further explains that they expect that after two or three years, people will once again head there or even visit for the first time, adding that this connection will have a positive influence.
Fares for the new service start at around €800 for Economy with checked baggage, €3,000 for Premium Plus, and approximately €4,500 for Business Class, although ticket prices will vary depending on the travel date.
