Each winter, several million Europeans catch the flu, which can have grave consequences for older or fragile people if complications should arise, such as lung infections.
The Ministry has recommended that people over 65 or people at risk to get vaccinated. People with chronic illnesses, respiratory or cardiovascular, diabetes or kidney issues should consult their doctors regarding the vaccine.
The Ministry has also recommended that medical staff in direct contact with at risk patients be vaccinated.
The ideal time to receive the flu vaccination is October/November. The immune system needs 15 days post flu jab to be properly protected against the flu virus.
The vaccine needs to be repeated each year and is available in pharmacies with a doctor's prescription. It is free for at risk patients and for those aged 65 and over.
