The machine is a simulator of a jumbo jet type 747-8F from 2012. Due to the simulator's substantial weight of ten tonnes and its width, it had to be transported by special transport and accompanied by police.
The moving operation has been in the making for over a year, in order to assure that the €15 million flight simulator makes it to its new location unscathed. The simulator was disassembled two weeks ago and should be operational again in about two months.
As soon as the first simulator has been assembled again, the disassembling process of the second simulator of the type 747-400F will begin. This is in a way the final big obstacle Cargolux has to clear before the company will once again be fully operational from its new headquarters in Sandweiler. A new location became necessary due to a lack of capacity at the old facility. The new headquarters also have room for a third simulator.
