On Thursday, the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF) officially announced it had terminated Dan Santos’ contract “with immediate effect”. The next day, FLF lawyer Marc Diederich confirmed via telephone to RTL that the federation possessed “concrete evidence” to prove the rumours surrounding the sacking of the women’s football coach; namely, that he had been caught sending inappropriate messages to multiple players on the national team.
Reports suggest that tensions had grown between the players and their coach following their second game against Scotland recently. This prompted the players to seek counsel from Carine Nardecchia at the FLF. On Wednesday morning, the FLF board met to discuss the issue and decided to terminate Santos’ contract.
The FLF reiterated its main priority is to protect its players and said there are plans to meet with the team in the very near future to see how best to progress.
Diederich underlined that the Dan Santos case is now closed in the eyes of the federation.
