The oak processionary caterpillars have once again hatched in Luxembourg, as observed in our image gallery. The caterpillars can trigger allergic reactions in humans due to the small hairs covering their bodies. The hairs, which can be carried from oak trees on the wind, can cause irritation, rashes, and inflame both respiratory tracts and eyes.

If you should come into contact with the caterpillars’ hairs, it is advised to wash the skin immediately, as well as washing affected clothing. People who suffer serious reactions should contact a doctor straight away.
