TravelFirst edition of Cruise Fair kicks off on Sunday

RTL Today
While the annual Holiday Convention has been cancelled for a third year in a row, a fair for cruises kicked off for the first time in Kirchberg on Sunday.

Although Luxembourg’s Federation of Travel Agencies considered it unnecessary to organise the first post-pandemic edition of the traditional Holiday Convention due to sufficient bookings, a fair focusing on cruises is offering travellers an overview of potential holiday destinations.

Experts from the sector say that while the entire tourism industry suffered during the pandemic, cruises were affected most severely. In 2022, clients were still more reluctant to book a trip, but it now seems as though interest in cruises is growing once again.

When asked about criticism of cruises being harmful to the environment and climate, travel agent Patrick Wetter explained that the sector has made great progress in recent years, which is also important for other industries: “If it wasn’t for the cruise industry investing money into the development of new energy and power systems, then merchant shipping would not make any progress as they benefit from our concepts, which they can of course take over.”

The Cruise Fair is organised by two Luxembourgish travel agencies in cooperation with their international partners.
