
The trial followed incidents that occurred in November 2016, where two men were found to be accused of murdering a drug dealer and a sex worker in two separate incidents. The main defendant was sentenced to life in prison, to which his lawyer said they would most definitely take the decision to the Court of Appeals.
The second defendant, found to be an accomplice, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, five of which made up a suspended sentence.
The authorities found a drug dealer in Schlewenhof around three years ago as well as a prostitute in Fraiheetsbam, both murdered. The prosecutor had urged the court to sentence the main defendant to a lifelong prison sentence and the second defendant to 22 years in prison. The sentence for the accomplice was much lower than demanded.
The court president, in giving her speech before pronouncing the verdict, emphasised that the court could not find both men guilty of intent/premeditated murder. Nevertheless, the main defendant was sentenced to life, due to the discovery of the weapon along the belongings of the main defendant.
The defendant's lawyer reiterated he had called for an acquittal and told the court he would appeal the sentence, once the necessary time period after the verdict had expired.
