936 positive cases were recorded last week, which represents a 16% decrease compared to the previous week.

However, the number of PCR tests increased to 53,500, 2,000 more than the week before.

Looking at the Grand Duchy's Covid death toll, authorities informed that four people died in relation to the virus last week, five fewer than during the previous week. The average age of deceased patients is 68 years.

Fewer patients were hospitalised. 56 patients were in normal care, while 32 people received intensive treatment. In both categories this represents a decrease of two compared to the week prior. The average age of hospitalised patients remains stable at 57.

The reproduction rate is also stable at 0.94, while the positivity rate of tests fell to 1.75%.

Most infections still occur within family circles (46%), followed by schools (6%), work (4%), and travel (3%). In 38% of cases, no clear source could be determined.

Last week, 147 positive cases occurred per 100,000 citizens, 29 fewer than the week before. The biggest decline was recorded for the age group of over 75 years (-44%).

During the first week of May, 40,000 vaccine doses were administered. As of yesterday, a total of 255,000 jabs have been given.

When it comes to coronavirus variants, the British mutation remains most prevalent, in 82% of cases. The South African mutation was found in 10% of cases, the Brazilian mutation in 2.2% of cases. One further case of the Indian variant was also recorded.

Analyses from the country's water purification plants also start painting a more optimistic picture.
