Meteorological ReportFebruary 2023 was too warm and too dry

RTL Today
February 2023 was also sunnier compared to previous years.

February was too warm, specifically two degrees warmer than the reference period from 1991 to 2020. The average temperature in February during these 30 years was 2.2 degrees.

The freezing temperatures of the last few days have brought the average down slightly, but they also seem colder than they are because of the cold north-easterly wind.

21 February was the warmest day with 14.2 degrees measured at Findel Airport and even a maximum of 16.6 degrees in Steinfort and Ettelbruck. The coldest night was recorded between 8 and 9 February, with -5.8 degrees measured at Findel Airport. The lowest temperature that night was recorded at the ASTA station in Arsdorf (-10.2 degrees).

Meanwhile, not a single frost day, i.e., a day with temperatures below 0 degrees, was recorded at Findel Airport in February.

The lack of snow during the entire month of February is also considered unusual.

Furthermore, February 2023 saw only 13% of the average precipitation. 6.9 litres per square metre were measured at Findel Airport. Normally precipitation can reach up to 58 litres per square metre in February.

In contrast, the second month of the year was sunnier compared to the reference period, with 101.8 hours of sunshine, 145% above normal for February.
