Grevenmacher drowningFather of drowned boy seeks accountability

RTL Today
Following the news that the inquiry into the drowning of a young boy at the Grevenmacher public swimming pool has closed, the father of the young boy has spoken to the Trierischer Volksfreund with a plea for the truth.

The 45-year-old father of Paydar Movafagh expressed his shock in his interview with the Trierischer Volksfreund, reiterating that he wants to know why his son died on 27 July 2018.

On Wednesday, the public prosecutor's office announced that there was no possibility of negligence or misconduct on behalf of rescue services of the lifeguards present on that day that Paydar drowned.

The public prosecutor's office's pronouncement did not reassure Maziyar Movafagh, who is desperate to know who is accountable for his son's death. He told the Volksfreund that the public prosecutor's office have not even tried to contact him since the incident, despite his numerous attempts to talk to the police.

Movafagh is separated from the mother of Paydar and lives in Düsseldorf, although his ex-partner is based in the Grand Duchy.

An eye witness previously made damning allegations against the municipal authorities, which in turn has led Movafagh to also believe the authorities are responsible for his son's death. According to Movafagh, the municipal authorities were negligent in not assigning enough lifeguards at the busy swimming pool.

Movafagh, who has understandably been in therapy since the death of his son, says he will not have any peace until he knows the truth about the circumstances surrounding the drowning. He explained that in the worst case scenario, he would drive to Luxembourg with friends and protest in front of the courts with his son's photograph until someone answers his questions.
