This was revealed by Paul Schroeder, the director of Luxembourg’s emergency services, during a press conference on Tuesday morning.
Schroeder explained that while the figure itself remained relatively stable, a closer look at the details revealed certain variations.
For instance, there was a significant decrease in interventions between March and May compared to 2019. However, the difference was ultimately compensated by the numerous Covid-related interventions.
Despite the lockdown, the emergency service’s activity remained overall similar to previous years.
In 2020, 7,268 people worked for the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), either as volunteers or professionally. Fire fighters were able to reach the site of an emergency within 15 minutes in 87% of all cases.
