On Tuesday evening, the police were conducting a routine roadside check in Hollerich. After observing an infringement, the officers decided to pull over a vehicle. However, the motorist in question refused to cooperate.
When the police signalled them to pull over to the side of the road, the driver reportedly put their foot down. A chase ensued “across the whole neighbourhood,” according to the authorities. The driver even went so far as to drive “head-on” into a police car that was trying to intercept them.
It was only thanks to the police’s evasive manoeuvre that a collision was avoided. The driver continued his escape despite a damaged tyre. They eventually abandoned their vehicle after “causing more damage” on Rue d’Alsace, continuing their escape on foot.
However, the police eventually managed to apprehend them. It turned out that the car was not roadworthy and that the driver had taken drugs. The public prosecutor’s office was informed of the incident and ordered the driver’s arrest. They were presented to an examining magistrate on Wednesday morning.
The car was seized.
