In the future, should someone not be able to afford the installation of solar cells on their own, subsidies will be paid out in advance rather than being reimbursed after the fact.
This is a proposition made by the Democratic Party (DP) in their election manifesto. In a press conference on Monday, the party presented their promises on the topics of purchasing power, housing and energy, and also used the opportunity to review the past five years.
Although they did not manage to implement an individualisation of taxation, it remains important for the party to create more equity when it comes to taxation, said Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.
“It’s a big problem that in 2023 in Luxembourg, as a married person you have tax advantages compared to single, divorced, or widowed people. A tax individualisation is not anti-family, on the contrary, having children is what should give tax advantages. The focal point should be the human being, and not this cliché of what a family should look like,” Bettel said.
The Prime Minister added he was not ashamed of his work, saying that it was the work of all three parties in government. But at the same time, Bettel did not want to speculate about a possible future coalition. The DP aims to strengthen its standing on election day, and then decide which parties could best help them to make their plans reality.
