Suicide and self-harm awarenessDarkness into Light charity walk is back for its seventh year on 10 May

RTL Today
The Darkness Into Light organisation invites you to join its charity walk, offering a moving yet uplifting way to raise awareness about mental health, suicide prevention, and the power of hope.

Now celebrating its seventh edition, the Darkness into Light symbolic 5km walk has grown into a global movement. Luxembourg joins 10 other countries to have their own walk to bring awareness about mental health. Sam and Lynda stopped by Today Radio to talk about what to expect for the event.

The walk starts at 5am at Hall Omnisport Clausen. Participants walk together towards the rising sun, symbolising a powerful reminder that even in the darkest times, hope is always on the horizon. While mental health can be difficult to talk about, the walk aims to destigmatise the topic and make it more approachable. For that reason, the event is not somber – it’s a reflective and uplifting experience. The walk invites you to take a moment for yourself and for those around you to participate in a community that offers safety for people to seek help.

When someone is lost to suicide, statistics show that it immediately impacts at least 300 people around them. The truth is that mental health affects everyone, whether we each experience things ourselves or see our loved ones suffer. The Darkness Into Light walk offers a positive way to honour those feelings and move forward with compassion and community.

The walk is for everyone, be it those who are currently struggling, friends wanting to show that they care, those walking in memory of someone, or for parents wishing to teach their children that seeking help is not a weakness. Even dogs are invited! It’s a walk of support, resilience, and hope.

After the walk, participants are invited to stay for tea and coffee and connect with partner organisations like KJT and SOS Détresse (with 24/7 support line 454545) – organisations that offer crucial mental health support services in Luxembourg. Licenced psychologists will also be available at the walk for those who want to talk to someone, or just learn more about the resources available locally.

Register here for your opportunity to reflect, connect, and walk towards the light together.
