As a result of an operation aimed at checking for drugs, by the Customs and Excise Agency of Luxembourg, authorities confiscated an exceptional amount of drugs found in a lorry.
In detail, the find consists of 1,065kg of hashish and 126kg of marijuana. Pictures disclosed by Customs show that a scanner was used to examine the lorry cargo, which led to the swift discovery of the illegal goods.
The public prosecutor’s office was informed of the find, which then ordered the detainment of the 35-year-old driver. The driver was brought before the examining magistrate, who consequently issued an arrest warrant against the individual. Further ongoing investigations were ordered by the examining magistrate.
As the investigation is currently in an early stage, no further details about the case are disclosed, according to a press release by the Customs and Excise Agency of Luxembourg on Monday afternoon.
Difference between marijuana and hashish
Marijuana and hashish are both products of the cannabis plant. While marijuana refers to the leaves of the cannabis plant that are dried out after their harvest and can be used for smoking, hashish or ‘hash’ is made from the resin of the buds of the cannabis plant, which is then compressed into a sticky brown substance. This substance is a more concentrated form of THC, the psychoactive constituent of cannabis.
For the preparation of hashish, cannabis leaves are also used, but are compressed into slabs or bricks. Good quality hashish mainly consists of the resin of the buds, while low quality hashish is made of a mixture of different parts of the plant and potentially cutting agents that can dilute the purity of the substance or enhance its effects.
