'Time for new politics': that is the slogan with which the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) enters the race for the national election in October.

On Friday, the CSV’s top candidate Luc Frieden presented the party’s election programme, which consists of ten key points. Among other things, the party focuses on lower taxes and more purchasing power.

Officials also hope to break away from policies implemented by the incumbent coalition during this last decade, as is made clear with the new slogan.

The tax scale is to be redesigned in stages, and the middle class is to be relieved, explained Luc Frieden at the official unveiling on Friday.

“We would ideally like people to have more of their net salaries left in order to pay off their debts. Also, we hope to see more and faster construction. For that, current procedures have to reviewed and tax measures taken so that people can buy or invest, because we need housing without being slowed down by additional environmental compensation measures.”

Besides taxes and housing, the party also emphasises medical care. People should be admitted more easily to the emergency room and the shortage of nursing staff should be counteracted, which they hope to achieve through more attractive employment conditions.

Security also plays an important role to the party. The police should be more present in the field and less burdened with administrative tasks. For this, 700 additional police officers are to be recruited over the next five years.

To get its message across, the CSV is trying to increase its social media presence as well as using simpler language with clear-cut statements, said MP Claude Wiseler.

“When you see our posters, you can see that we have really focused on accessible and understandable statements. Moreover, we also made sure that these statements are also personified in a credible way. That’s why we are relieved to have Luc Frieden as our top candidate, because I think it is very clear that he personifies the values of our campaign in credible manner.”

The CSV was last in power ten years ago. According to party officials, a coalition is only feasible with the three big parties of the centre.
