Following Blasen’s departure earlier this week, the CSV party and mayor Emile Eicher’s team were left scrambling to replace him or face losing their majority on the municipal council.
CSV Clervaux decided on Wednesday evening to sound out the other parties in order to fill the gap. In an interview with RTL, the deputy mayor said the Green party had already been in touch. The Syvicol president declined on Thursday to say whether anyone from the DP, déi Gréng or the citizens’ list would be brought on board. The council would take time to sound out the right candidates and find a compromise.
The Green party has two councilors in Clervaux, as does the DP. In addition, there is also one councilor from the citizens’ list forming part of the opposition.
Emile Eicher said in the past, all parties had cooperated without issues. Blasen’s withdrawal from the CSV had reportedly been in the works for some time as he was dissatisfied with communication.
Blasen allegedly intends to continue with his seat on the council as an independent and would continue to support the municipal majority, said Eicher.
The result of the consultations is not expected before Easter.
