Halsdorf will be joined at the top of the CSV ballot by André Martins Dias.
Pétange Mayor Pierre Mellina recently announced that he no longer intends on staying in office, but that he wants to remain active as a municipal councillor.
Jean-Marie Halsdorf, who is currently an alderman, was already Mayor of Pétange between 2000 and 2004. He later became Defence and Interior Minister, offices that he held until 2013.
Running mate André Martins Dias has been a member of the local council since May 2020. He formerly held the position of treasurer at the CSV non-profit Frëndeskreess, which came under fire last year due to party-internal disputes involving former CSV president Frank Engel.
There are nine women and ten men on the CSV ballot for Pétange.
