In a statement published on Saturday, the CPJPO stresses that a lasting peace cannot be achieved until the Palestinian people can exercise their right to a state within the borders defined by the United Nations in 1967.

The non-profit argues that the violence inflicted on Palestinians by the Israeli occupation is often forgotten.

On Friday, the most recent conflict came to an end after a ceasefire was agreed between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist movement which controls the Gaza Strip.

The fighting led to the deaths of 232 Palestinians in Gaza, including 65 children, as well as fighters, and 25 deaths in the West Bank. In Israel, 12 died, including two children and an Israeli soldier, after Hamas fired over 4,000 rockets from Gaza. Most of the rockets were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile defence system.

The CPJPO states that society must now show solidarity, after entire families living in the Gaza Strip have been "wiped out" by missile strikes.

The Committee also calls on as many people as possible to join their protest the following weekend, during which they will demonstrate for an end to all military operations and safety for both Israel and Palestine.
