The first trial concluded at the court in Luxembourg City in January of this year, with the first accused convicted to life in prison, while the second is serving a sentence of 15 years of which five make up a suspended sentence.
Four years ago, a drug dealer was killed in Schlewenhof, just outside the capital, and a female sex worker was murdered close to "Fräiheetsbam", roughly located between Strassen and Bridel.
During the first trial the two defendants stood by their contradictory versions of the incidents.
The 37 year old man serving a life sentence for the two murders explained that he was not responsible for the crimes and had thus launched an appeal. The 25 year old currently serving a fifteen year partially-suspended sentence for his involvement in the first murder, meanwhile, emphasises that he had nothing to do with the incident.
The older defendant stated that he was "a little involved" in the death of the drug dealer, but only through an offence to the law of bearing arms, not murder. He noted that he stayed next to his car which he was driving, while the other accused party shot the drug dealer. He had been in shock himself, under a lot of stress and scared.
He had nothing to do with the death of the sex worker at all, he states, since during that night he lent his car to the other accused.
The younger defendant launched an appeal as he says he had no involvement in the drug dealer’s death. He states he was in the car but did not shoot. He was behind the wheel and suddenly there was an explosion. "He had a plan, and I was the idiot who accompanied him", he stated.
Rosario Grasso, the first defendant’s lawyer, underlines that his client has always said that, in relation to the drug dealer's death, he was driving and the other defendant fired the shot. For his part in this case, the defendant should have been given the benefit of the doubt. The President of the Court issued a reminder that the defendant has yet to answer to both incidents. Rosario Grasso will get back to the second death on Friday at the trial.
