Agreement reached with landownerConstruction to begin on new Nordstad secondary school in 2025

Over 600 pupils currently attending the "Nordstad-Lycée" are being taught across a series of container classrooms at three different locations.

Construction on a new school building had been delayed due to a disagreement over land prices with the owners of the designated building plots in Erpeldange.

This week, Minister of Public Works François Bausch confirmed in a parliamentary response to DP MP André Bauler that the government had reached an agreement with the owners of 32 plots required to give the Nordstad Lycée a new home. No expropriation was required to obtain the seven hectares of land.

The parliamentary bill to build the new school, to the tune of €158 million, was passed in the Chamber two years ago.

Since then, the project has also faced objections from the Erpeldange municipal council, who raised concerns over the construction plans, particularly in response to a well situated near the planned football pitch. Plans have adapted to move construction away from this area, so the well can continue to be used.

Bausch said the necessary studies on the environmental impact of the new school buildings can continue, while the reclamation of the individual plots is now underway.

It is likely that construction work will not begin prior to spring 2025, with the buildings expected to be fit for purpose by 2030.
