
“Thanks to these measures, the dam will even be protected against floods that only once occur every 10,000 years. The €98 million that we have dedicated to the project is an important investment in our future. It will make a significant contribution to the basic supply of drinking water, also for future generations”, commented MP Emile Eicher of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV).
In addition, flood protection will also be improved for the inhabitants of Esch-Sauer and Bivange. According to disaster scenarios, a breaking of the 47-metre high dam could have an impact as far away as Trier, not to mention the damage here in the country.
Reinforcement work is scheduled to begin this year and expected to last until 2031.
